Landore Residents consulted on Road Closure12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 3rd Sep 2007 Following a petition of 200-plus names a full consultation process has started to see whether local residents in Landore would like to see Station Road permanently closed or not. The road, which connects Neath Road to Mysydd Road past Shorts Electrical is used at rush hour times as a short-cut for commuters. The petition called for the closure of the road tunnel under the railway arch of Station Road and the conversion of Mysydd Road into a one-way road. "Landore has had traffic problems for many years, and become worse in the last couple of years since the Liberty Stadium was build" said local ward Councillor Rob Speht. "We have received a petition from residents asking for this change, and so we are conducting a survey of all residents in the area - this will be a decision made by local Residents, not by County Hall" he added. Councillor Viv Abbott, also a local Councillor said "The road is being used as a rat-run at the moment and many residents are concerned that it is not safe" he added, "we are taking the time to knock on every door to ask what local residents think about this, later in the month we will also hold a public meeting" Rob Speht would prefer to see a more comprehensive solution to Landore's traffic problems rather than a "sticking plaster" approach on a road by road basis. He said "I would personally prefer to see more speed humps, 20 mile per hour zones and a proper traffic management system around Landore, unfortunately there is no spare money for that at the moment", he added "We have however been able to find the money to close Station road, if it is what local residents want - lets wait and see what the outcome of the consultation is" ENDS Notes to editors; 1. The idea to close Station Road, originated from a residents petition of more than 200 names requesting the close of the "tunnel" on Station road, Landore 2. Councillor's Rob Speht and Viv Abbott wrote to all locally affected residents on 30th July. 3. Councillors Viv Abbott and Rob Speht, are in the process of calling at the door of each of the 645 affected houses. 4. A public meeting has been called by Councillor Rob Speht for 7pm on Thursday 27th September at Montana Park Community Centre.
