Don't stop at one policy AM advises Labour12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 27th Sep 2007
The Welsh Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Communities, Housing and Social Justice, Peter Black, has suggested that Labour should implement more Liberal Democrat policies after Labour Treasury Minister Angela Eagle admitted that the government should learn from the Liberal Democrats and look at more ways to tax Britain's top earners. Ms Eagle's comments came at a Fabian Society meeting at the Labour Conference in Bournemouth. She was asked if her party faced a "challenge" from its opponents when it came to talking about the top end of the tax scale. She replied: "Yes. And I for one hope we're going to do a bit of talking about that." Commenting, Mr Black said: "I am delighted that Labour Ministers are finally realising that it is the Liberal Democrats who are putting forward radical and relevant policies to address the glaring inequalities in our society. "We are proposing the lowering of the basic rate of income tax by 4p in the pound to 16p, the abolition of council tax, and increasing "green" taxes, including replacing air passenger tax with a tax on flights themselves. "Labour should stop drifting towards the Tories and implement more Lib Dem policies starting with the abolition of ID Cards."
