Worrying about competition between supermarkets misses the point

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 15th Feb 2008

Commenting on today's Competition Commission report which is expected to say that there is not enough competition between different supermarket chains Dunvant councillor and former Welsh Lib Dem Assembly candidate for Gower Nick Tregoning said:

"This report is completely supermarket-centric. Worrying about competition between different supermarkets completely misses the point.

"The Competition Commission should instead focus on ensuring fair practice between supermarkets, farmers and smaller shops.

"Labour should create a strong supermarket regulator to guarantee fair trade and fair prices for farmers, ensuring that these big companies can't use their power to exploit small producers. There is nothing here to worry the big supermarkets at all."
